Matsumoto Yusei

Matsumoto Yusei is a Japanese trampoline gymnast born in 2007, from Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. One of the most exciting young talents on the international trampoline circuit, he began competing at the FIG World Cup senior level while still a teenager and rapidly established himself as a rising force in both individual and synchronised trampoline. At the 2024 Pacific Rim Championships, he placed second in both qualifications and the final of the men's individual senior event with scores of 57.940 and 58.290, finishing just behind seasoned national champion Ryosuke Sakai. In September 2025, Matsumoto delivered one of the performances of his young career at the FIG Trampoline World Cup in Varna, Bulgaria, where he ended a run of fourth-place finishes at World Cup events with two gold medals and a silver. He won the men's synchronised trampoline event alongside compatriot Miyano Hayato, and then teamed with six-time world champion Hikaru Mori to claim gold in the Mixed Synchronised event with a score of 50.330. He also earned a silver in the individual event. Described as showing sublime technique, Matsumoto represents the next generation of Japanese trampoline gymnastics — a discipline Japan has dominated at the highest level for decades. Both he and synchro partner Miyano Hayato hail from Ishikawa Prefecture, a notable regional hotbed for Japanese trampoline talent.
